Appliance installation in Las Vegas: what a hookup covers

Some delivery services drop a new appliance and leave the connections to you. Our appliance installation in Las Vegas picks up from there: we connect water, drain, power or vent, level the unit, fasten it where it needs fastening, and run a full cycle while we are still on site.

Permits depend on the job. The City of Las Vegas homeowner guide lists replacing an existing dishwasher or garbage disposal of 30 amps or less as work that needs no permit, and treats freezers, washing machines and refrigerators as portable appliances. Gas piping, new circuits and new vented appliances are different, covered below.

Dishwashers and hard water

A dishwasher swap involves a supply line, a drain hose with a high loop or air gap, a power connection, and mounting brackets into the counter or cabinet sides. Old supply valves under Las Vegas sinks are often crusted with scale and may weep once turned, so we check the valve before committing to it.

The Las Vegas Valley Water District's 2026 water quality summary puts average hardness at 280 parts per million, or 16 grains per gallon. That mineral load clogs inlet screens and stiffens valves over time, and it is why a dishwasher with a water hardness setting should be set to match the local figure rather than left at the factory default.

Laundry pairs, microwaves and hoods

Washers need a level stance, a drain hose secured in the standpipe, and new fill hoses rather than the old ones off the last machine. Dryers need a vent run that is short, smooth and not crushed behind the machine. A new electric dryer usually needs its power cord bought separately, and the right one depends on whether the wall receptacle has three slots or four.

Stacking only works with a pair built for it and the maker's kit. An over-the-range microwave is held by a rear plate screwed into framing plus through-bolts from the cabinet above; the template in the box shows where both go. Its blower must be set for outside venting or recirculation to match what the kitchen has.

The City of Las Vegas guide lists installing kitchen range exhausts and dryer exhausts as permit items, so even a hood swap gets checked against the rules for your address. Adding a hood where none existed, or upsizing the duct, also means cutting through cabinets, ceiling or roof.

Gas appliances and new circuits

Gas ranges and gas dryers connect to the house gas system, fed in the valley by Southwest Gas, which began serving Las Vegas in 1954. The City of Las Vegas guide says installing, altering or repairing gas piping between the meter and any appliance requires a permit. We follow those rules: gas work is permitted and inspected as the city or county for your address requires, and every connection is leak-tested before the appliance runs.

If you ever smell rotten eggs near an appliance, leave the house and call 911 and Southwest Gas at 877-860-6020 from a safe distance, as the utility advises.

A dishwasher where there was none, an induction range on a circuit sized for an old coil top, or a second fridge in the garage may need a new or upgraded circuit. That is permit-level electrical work, handled as the local building department requires, and we flag it when we first look at the job.

Appliance installation questions.

  • Typical PrimeFix prices in Las Vegas: Dishwasher, replace, $109 to $229. Over-the-range microwave, $89 to $269. Washer or dryer, existing hookups, $89 to $269. Text a photo of the job and you get a written price with a breakdown before any work starts. Hourly work is $69 to $89 with a one-hour minimum.

  • Sure. Check the box for an install kit before the delivery truck leaves. Dishwashers often need a separate power cord or junction kit and a 90-degree elbow, and dryers usually need a cord and a new vent hose.

  • Often, yes. A valve that has not been turned in years can drip from the stem once it moves, and hard water speeds that wear. With the cabinet empty and the old unit pulled, swapping a quarter-turn valve is a small add-on rather than a separate plumbing repair visit later.

  • Measure the opening height, width and depth, then add the clearance the manual asks for at the top and back. Measure the doorways and hall on the delivery path too. For a water line, we connect it to the existing valve and flush the filter before the first glass.

  • We do. We fit a new listed connector, check every joint for leaks, and confirm the burners or dryer heat run cleanly. Whether the hookup needs a permit depends on your jurisdiction and the work involved, and when it does, it is permitted and inspected before the appliance goes into use.
