A kitchen remodel in Las Vegas, one decision at a time

A kitchen remodel in Las Vegas usually begins with one decision that shapes all the others: does the layout stay? If the sink, range and refrigerator keep their spots, the job is cabinets, counters, backsplash and lighting. If any of them move, plumbing, gas or wiring moves too, and the project gets larger and slower.

We walk the kitchen with you, measure every wall and opening, and note the things that limit choices: a soffit hiding a duct, a window that sets the sink location, a slab floor under the island you want. Then the plan is written down so the cabinet order matches the room.

Cabinets: new boxes or new faces

If the existing boxes are square, dry and laid out the way you like, new doors and drawer fronts can change the look without touching counters or plumbing. Check under the sink first. A floor panel that has swollen from a slow leak means that cabinet, at least, should be replaced.

New cabinets are set level from the highest point of the floor, shimmed where the slab dips, and screwed to studs through a solid rail. Shaker doors show any misalignment along their straight rails, so hinges get a final adjustment after the counters are on. If you only want better doors or hinges on sound boxes, a cabinet repair visit may be all you need.

Counters, backsplash and the order they go in

Stone and quartz tops are cut by a fabricator from a template made on the installed base cabinets, so the cabinets must be final before anyone measures. After the tops are set, the faucet and drain are connected, and the backsplash tile runs down to the counter with a flexible caulk joint at the bottom instead of grout.

Hard water is the reason we suggest an undermount sink and a faucet in a brushed finish. Scale builds where water sits, and the rim of a drop-in sink or a polished spout gives it a place to show. An under-sink filter also needs room beside the disposal, so that cabinet is laid out with both in mind.

Gas, circuits and permits

Kitchens carry more electrical load than any other room, and some also have a gas range. Adding circuits for a new oven or microwave, running a gas line to a different wall, or moving the sink to an island are permit-level changes. They are permitted and inspected as Clark County or your city building office requires, and the schedule is built around those inspections.

Cosmetic work is a different story. Clark County's building code lists cabinets, countertops and similar finish work among the items that do not need a building permit, so a kitchen that keeps its layout is mostly finish work. New lighting circuits are still a separate question.

Kitchen remodel questions.

  • Typical PrimeFix prices in Las Vegas: Partial: paint, cabinet fronts, counters, $3,590 to $16,190. Full remodel, same layout, $13,490 to $44,990. Backsplash, $449 to $1,490. Text a photo of the job and you get a written price with a breakdown before any work starts. Hourly work is $69 to $89 with a one-hour minimum.

  • Not in the kitchen itself for most of the job. Set up a small station elsewhere with the refrigerator, a microwave or air fryer, and a plug-in kettle, and use paper plates while the sink is disconnected. Water at the sink usually returns once the counters are in.

  • Yes, or at least chosen with spec sheets in hand. A range, a built-in microwave and a panel-ready dishwasher each need an exact opening, and a refrigerator that is an inch too tall will not slide under the upper cabinet. We check the cutout sizes against the cabinet plan before anything is ordered.

  • Matte or lightly textured tile hides water spots behind the sink better than high-gloss glass or polished stone. Grout matters as much as tile: a mid-tone color and an epoxy or sealed cement grout keep splash marks from turning into a gray line. Run the tile up to the bottom of the uppers, or to the ceiling behind a hood, so there is no leftover painted strip.

  • It happens, most often under the sink, behind the dishwasher and near the refrigerator water line. Damaged drywall is cut out and replaced before new cabinets go in, and any active leak is fixed first. We show you what we found before going further, so nothing gets covered up.
