Cabinet repair in Las Vegas starts with the hardware

Cabinet repair in Las Vegas kitchens and bathrooms is mostly about the parts that open and close every day. Cabinet boxes usually outlast their hinges and slides by a wide margin, so a door that droops or a drawer that drops off its track rarely means the cabinet is done.

Concealed hinges, the cup-style ones hidden inside the door, usually adjust in three directions: side to side, in and out, and up and down. A quarter turn on the right screw squares up a crooked pair of doors. Older face-frame cabinets with exposed hinges adjust less, so a sag there usually means re-anchoring the hinge or filling worn screw holes.

Under the sink: leaks, hard water and swollen floors

Water is the main enemy of a kitchen cabinet, and it most often comes from under the sink. Water that escapes from a loose compression nut or a worn disposal gasket runs to the back corner, where particleboard drinks it up and puffs like a sponge. We fix the leak first, or point it out if it needs a plumber, then cut out the ruined panel and fit a new floor of moisture-resistant board.

Las Vegas water adds its own mark. The Las Vegas Valley Water District rates its supply as very hard, and every drip that dries leaves a chalky ring on the cabinet floor and the lower door edges. If a reverse osmosis unit or softener line also lives under the sink, its tubing crowds the space and adds more joints that can weep. Clark County handles installing either unit as a plumbing permit.

Drawers, shelves and stripped screw holes

Drawers fail in a few ways. Side-mount slides wear their bearings and start to grind, bottom-mount rollers crack, and the drawer box itself loosens at the corners or loses its bottom panel under heavy pots. Slides are replaced to the same length and mounting style; a box that is coming apart gets glued, clamped and pinned, or rebuilt with the old front saved.

Stripped screw holes are the quiet cause behind a lot of loose hinges and wobbly pulls. Particleboard does not hold a screw twice, so we fill the hole with glued hardwood or a repair insert and drill it fresh rather than reaching for a bigger screw. Shelves that bow get flipped, stiffened with a strip underneath or replaced with thicker stock.

Sun, heat and when to repair or replace

Cabinets near a west window or a sliding door see strong afternoon sun, and over time that fades stain, yellows clear coats and can make thermofoil or laminate faces peel at the edges. A peeling thermofoil door cannot be glued back for long, so the fix is a replacement door matched as closely as the line allows. Painted and stained wood can be filled and touched up.

Repair makes sense while the boxes are sound and the layout works for you. When most doors are failing, or you want a different look, a kitchen remodel or new cabinet fronts may be the better spend, and we can walk through both options. Before a visit, empty the cabinets we will be working in and snap a photo of any hinge or slide label you can find.

  • If your doors use concealed hinges, a soft-close hinge with the same mounting plate usually swaps straight in. Exposed or wrap-around hinges take a separate damper mounted on the frame instead. Soft-close drawer slides have to match the drawer's depth and side clearance, and some older boxes need shims or a new rear bracket.

  • Wipe with warm water and a little dish soap on a soft cloth, then dry the surface right away. The water district itself suggests wiping surfaces dry so minerals have nothing to leave behind. Skip scouring pads and strong descalers on painted or thermofoil doors, since they dull the finish faster than the spots do.

  • Vanities get the same treatment as kitchen cabinets, and they see even more water from splashing and from leaks at the faucet or drain. When the vanity floor is wrecked and the top is still good, we can usually replace the floor panel without lifting the counter. If you want a new vanity instead, that falls under our bathroom remodel work.

  • A split along the grain on a solid wood door can often be glued and clamped, then touched up. Cracks across a panel, a broken corner joint on a shaker door, or a door made of particleboard usually call for a new door built or ordered to match. Tell us the brand if you know it, since some makers still sell replacement doors.
