How we plan Christmas light installation in Las Vegas

Christmas light installation in Las Vegas starts with a photo of the front of the house and a rough idea: roofline only, or roofline plus windows, trees and a lit path. From that we measure the runs, count clips, and find the outdoor outlets that will feed everything.

Outlets set the limits of the design. Outdoor receptacles should be GFCI protected, and a single circuit can only carry so many strings, even with efficient LEDs. If an outlet is missing where you want lights, adding one is new wiring, and the City of Las Vegas lists that as permit work, so it is planned well before the season.

If you want the same look every year, we photograph the finished display and keep notes on string counts per run, so the next install matches it.

Tile roofs, stucco and safe clips

Concrete and clay tile take no nails or staples, and a cracked tile can let water reach the underlayment. Most of the roofline goes up from a ladder at the eave, using clips that hook the lower edge of each tile, so the roof surface is walked as little as possible.

Stucco walls and parapets get clips that grip or adhere without drilling, because every hole in stucco is a spot for water to get behind the finish. Along a wood fascia, small screw-in hooks are an option if you want permanent mounts for future years.

Two-story rooflines need taller ladders and more setup, so we plan those houses with extra time.

Wind, timers and the desert winter

Holiday lights here have to ride out wind. National Weather Service records list warning-level gusts at Las Vegas of 61 mph on December 14, 2021, and 59 mph on December 31, 2021. Every clip is seated firmly, loose ends are tied off, and inflatables and yard figures get staked and tethered.

Timers keep the display predictable. A plug-in outdoor timer or a smart plug can switch lights on at dusk and off at a set hour, so strings do not run all night. LED strings use a fraction of the power of old incandescent sets and run cool to the touch, which matters next to wood trim and dry palm fronds.

When rain does come, connections lying in a gutter or a puddle can trip the GFCI and kill the whole run. We keep plug joints off the ground and out of gutters, and wrap them with a weather cover where they sit exposed.

Trees, palms and the rest of the yard

Palm trunks take a wrapped spiral, and the spacing between turns sets how many strings you need, so we count before buying. On leafy trees, running strands out along each main branch reads better from the street than throwing a net over the canopy. Shrubs and hedges suit net lights, and a lit walkway can use stake lights along the edge.

Homeowner associations sometimes write holiday decoration windows into their rules. If yours has one, send us the dates and we will book both visits inside it.

Takedown is part of the job, not an afterthought. Strings come down clip by clip, get checked for dead sections, and go into bins marked by where they hung, such as roofline left or front tree. Your existing strings are fine to reuse if they pass that check.

  • Typical PrimeFix prices in Las Vegas: Hanging lights, $179 to $359. Roofline outline package, $229 to $1,390. Removal only, $89 to $359. Text a photo of the job and you get a written price with a breakdown before any work starts. Hourly work is $69 to $89 with a one-hour minimum.

  • Reach out once Halloween decorations come down. That gives time to check outlets, order clips sized for your roof, and pick install and takedown dates. If an outlet has to be added, call earlier still.

  • In most cases, yes. Barrel tile, flat concrete tile, asphalt shingle and metal gutters each take a different clip, and parapet walls on flat-roof homes need their own. Send a close photo of the roof edge and we will match the clip.

  • We can. Common causes are a loose plug, a tripped GFCI after rain, or one failed connector. We check the outlet first, then work along the run to the fault and swap the bad string or section.

  • Block walls and courtyard walls take adhesive or clamp clips along the cap, and strings can drop to a nearby outlet without crossing the walkway. Cords that must cross a path go under a flat cover so nobody trips.
