TV mounting in Summerlin great rooms

TV mounting in Summerlin often means a great room with a tall ceiling and a fireplace as the obvious focal point. Putting the screen above the mantel is a common choice, but it can leave the picture too high for comfortable viewing from the couch. We tape out the screen size first, and a pull-down mount is an option when the fireplace wall is the only workable spot.

Custom homes in The Ridges and Red Rock Country Club can bring ledgestone or smooth plaster-look walls. Ledgestone has deep, uneven faces, so we shim the wall plate to sit flat and find framing behind the stone before choosing anchors. On smooth walls, cutouts are kept to the two openings the cable kit needs.

Wiring rules in the city and the county

The City of Las Vegas homeowner guide, which covers most of Summerlin, says low-voltage wiring for cable TV and power-limited wiring of 50 volts or less need no permit. Running new wiring to add an electrical outlet does. HDMI, network and speaker cables can run inside the wall through brush plates, while the TV's power uses a listed in-wall kit fed from an existing outlet.

Summerlin South homes follow Clark County rules. Either way, if you want a true outlet behind the screen, we tell you at the first visit that it needs an electrician and a permit. Speaker wire for surround sound can share the same wall openings if it is planned before the plates go on.

Patio TVs and the Design Review Committee

Covered patios are a common place for a second TV here. Pick an outdoor-rated set, mount it under the cover out of direct afternoon sun, and seal every bolt hole in the stucco so rain from the monsoon season, June 15 to September 30, cannot get behind it.

The Summerlin North improvement request covers all exterior alterations, whether visible from the street or not, including in rear yards. A patio TV, an exterior cable run or an outdoor speaker could fall under that, so check with your association before we drill into the outside of the house.

What TV mounting costs in Summerlin

A screen up to 55 inches usually costs $89 to $149 to mount; 65 to 75 inches costs $109 to $199. Fireplace, stone and tile installs are $199 to $319, and an in-wall cable and power kit adds $109 to $229. Full-motion arms, soundbar brackets and patio work move the price within those ranges.

Text photos of the wall, the mantel if there is one, and the TV model label to (702) 553-1671 for a quick range. The written, itemized price lists the mount, labor and cable work separately before any hole is drilled, and we leave with the boxes, foam and drywall dust.

  • Typical PrimeFix prices in Summerlin: TV up to 55″, $89 to $149. TV 65–75″, $109 to $199. Over a fireplace, stone or tile, $199 to $319. Wires in the wall, new outlet, $109 to $229. Text a photo of the job and you get a written price with a breakdown before any work starts. Hourly work is $69 to $89 with a one-hour minimum.

  • Standard installs run $89 to $199 by screen size, fireplace and stone installs $199 to $319, and in-wall cables add $109 to $229. All of it is written out before we start.

  • It depends on how warm the wall gets. Check the TV maker's operating temperature range and run the fireplace for a while before we commit; a mantel that deflects heat helps. If the wall is too warm, a side wall or a lower mount is the safer choice.

  • Yes. Add our company to the gate list for the appointment, and tell the guard if a new TV is being delivered for the same visit. If the store's truck needs its own pass, give the gate the delivery company's name too.

  • Corner mounts with a full-motion arm reach into a corner and pull the screen out to face the room. Narrow pillars may not hold two studs, so we check the framing first and pick a bracket sized for that width.
