A Boulder Highway town older than most of the valley
Whitney goes back to a dairy farmer named Stowell E. Whitney, who bought a ranch here in the 1910s and subdivided it in 1931 when the Boulder Highway was built. Clark County gave the town official borders in 1942, residents renamed it East Las Vegas in 1958, and the Whitney name came back in 1993. As a handyman in Whitney, we work in an unincorporated Clark County town, not the City of Las Vegas, even though addresses say Las Vegas.
Before the 1970s, Whitney was one of a few small communities along Boulder Highway between Las Vegas and Henderson. It had about 6,500 residents in 1970 and 49,061 at the 2020 census, so the houses here range widely in age. That range means a single street can need very different jobs.
