Del Webb's hillside master plan

Henderson annexed the first 2,535 acres of Anthem in November 1997, and Del Webb held the grand opening on October 24, 1998. A 1999 land swap pushed the master plan past 5,000 acres, and the city's map now shows it at about 5,545. Hiring a handyman in Anthem means working on houses built from 1998 into the 2000s, spread over several associations.

Anthem is not one neighborhood. It includes Anthem Country Club, whose golf course opened in April 1999, the 55-plus Sun City Anthem, Coventry Homes at Anthem, and Anthem Highlands, a 2003 community of 1,647 homes in 11 neighborhoods in the foothills of the Black Mountains. Sun City Anthem has its own page here.

Where 20-something-year-old houses need attention

The first Anthem homes are now well into their twenties. That is when the original builder finishes wear through: carpet flattens, faucets and toilet parts give up to scale, and interior paint shows every scuff. It is also when owners start replacing the bathroom they have lived with since closing. Builder-grade fixtures were never meant to last forever.

We take on the whole range here: flooring installation over the slab, interior painting, plumbing repair for running toilets and dripping valves, and full bathroom or kitchen remodels when a refresh is not enough. In west-facing rooms the afternoon sun is strong, and a ceiling fan makes them far more usable on summer evenings.

Anthem Highlands came later, starting in 2003, so its houses are a few years younger. There, upgrades often make more sense than repairs: custom closets with shelving and drawers, pendant lights over the kitchen island, a mounted TV and new tile in the main shower.

Associations, sub-associations and approvals

Anthem runs on layers. The Anthem Community Council sits over several sub-associations, and each association handles its own rules. Anthem Highlands, for example, has an architectural improvements process with its own application form. Exterior paint, new entry doors, outdoor lighting and anything else visible from the street should go through your association before we start.

Anthem questions.

  • It is in Henderson. The city annexed the land for Anthem's first phase in 1997, so building permits come from the City of Henderson. Mailing addresses read Henderson, in ZIP codes 89052 and 89044.

  • Plan on it. Approval runs through your own association, which may be Anthem Highlands, Anthem Country Club, Coventry Homes or another sub-association, not through us or the city. Get the color and any door or light changes approved, then call and we will set the schedule.

  • Yes. We remove the tub, check the drain location and the slab around it, build a properly sloped and waterproofed shower base, and tile it. Glass, niche and bench choices are yours. With water this hard, sealed grout and a simple glass panel save hours of scrubbing later.
